Normalization means to adjust microarray data for effects which arise from variation in the technology rather than from biological differences between the samples or between the printed probes.

Potential sources of systematic errors include array surface chemistry, microarray printing, labeling methods, hybridization parameters, image analysis and RNA isolation (Claverie, 1999; Schuchhardt et al., 2000; Lou  et al., 2001; Tseng  et al., 2001; Yue et al., 2001).
